A number of streets along Whitehead seafront are to be used as filming locations for a TV production at the end of May.

A letter sent to local residents from production company, ‘Dalg 3 Productions’ indicated that filming will be taking place at Marine Parade and Marine Avenue from 4pm to 3am on Friday, May 31.

The company said it had requested a council-approved road closure to facilitate the activity, with a team from the production area to be present in the area in the coming weeks to discuss any concerns from residents.

While there has been no official confirmation over the production, it is understood that the filming relates to the upcoming series of the Channel 5 crime drama, Dalgliesh.

Starring Bertie Carvel, the series follows the detective Adam Dalgliesh as he investigates complex crimes in mid-1970s England.

It is not the first time that this section of the east Antrim coastline has formed the backdrop for productions on both the big and small screen.

In 2020, filming took place in Whitehead as part of the BBC two-part drama, Awakening.

Further along the coast, the east Antrim area is well-known for its connections to global hit Game of Thrones, which saw numerous scenes filmed at Magheramorne Quarry.

The series shot material at Sallagh Brae outside Larne, also the location of a purpose-built film set for ‘The Northman’, starring Australian actress Nicole Kidman.

Meanwhile, in 2021, a number of scenes for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves were filmed at Carrickfergus Castle.
