Cenotaph needs a facelift
Mr Hay, who like many hundreds of people observed the Minute’s Silence in the city centre on Sunday, said during the moving tribute to The Fallen he became aware of how unkempt the memorial had become.
“There is a lot of blackness on the Cenotaph itself, and quite a bit of weed growth about the bottom of it. It has been some time since the council has looked at a refurbishment scheme for the Cenotaph. My colleagues in the DUP have raised the issue in the past, but it really hit home to me when I was at the service looking at it.

Hide Ad“The Cenotaph is very much part of the local history of the city and when visitors come to the city they want to see it. However, it is high time that the Cenotaph was modernised and brought up to a high standard and back to it’s former glory,” said Mr Hay.
