Last minute heartbreak in Cup for Wallace

There was last minute heartbreak for Wallace High School when they were defeated 4-3 by Sullivan Upper in the McCullough Cup Final at Lisnagarvey HC on Wednesday afternoon.
Wallace went 2-0 down in first 16 minutes when Sullivan’s John Matchett opened the scoring with a close range finish and a great Callum Carson turn on the edge of the circle and low finish made it 2-0.

Hide AdHowever, Wallace produced a battling display, and began the fightback when Andrew O’Hare gave them hope from the spot before the break.
Wallace keeper James Ritchie put in an inspired performance to give his side a chance of victory.
Meanwhile a surging Matthew Nelson run ended with the Captain squeezing a shot through the Sullivan keeper’s legs on 46 minutes.
Nelson led the second half charge with a driving performance and deserved his goal.

Hide AdHowever, Wallace were level for just five minutes when they were caught on the break and Matchett made it 3-2 to Sullivan.
O’Hare converted another penalty for Wallace to level at 3-3 with just 13 minutes remaining.
However, Wallace were left without any chance of a reply when Matchett grabbed the winner, completing his hat-trick with just 30 seconds to go in a thrilling final.
