The 25-year-old received medical attention at the scene, but sadly he could not be revived.

A total of £3000 raised during this year’s race will go towards Whitehead-based charity Hope House.

Founded in late 2013 year by local woman Dawn McConnell and her husband Roy, Hope House allows those who are going through a cancer diagnosis the use of a fully furnished, two bedroom apartment, free of charge.

The respite service is based at the seafront in the village.

Commenting on the event, race organiser Noel McKee said: “A huge thank you to all who came along and walked, ran and cycled. Great community event for an excellent local cause.”
