£400,000 for 400th anniversary of the city
The High Sheriffs' Charitable Trust will launch with a function in the city in December, when it is hoped to start the fundraising to create an endowment for the city worth 400,000. This endowment will provide scholarships for young people to access third-level educational opportunities.
Hugh Hegarty, the current High Sheriff for the city said: ''It was decided to create a legacy for the next 400 years, and the establishment of an endowment fund will do that. Yes, it is a challenge but worth for the work if it enables young people from this city to further their education.''

Hide AdAlong with two former High Sheriffs. Ian Crowe and Margaret Lee, plans are well advanced for the event in December, which will become an annual event in the city.
It is anticipated that the first scholarships will be awarded in 2013 to mark the 400th anniversary of the charter of the city. Fundraising will be ongoing. The aspiration is not to stop at the 400,000 but to create a trust that will grow and enable an increased number of scholarships to be made every year from 2013 onwards.
