Inert grenade caused Harryville alert

A grenade, believed to be around 100 years old, was the cause of an alert in Harryville yesterday (Sunday).

A number of properties were evacuated following the report of a suspicious object in the James Street area of Ballymena at around 3.40pm. ATO attended and declared the object as an old inert military type grenade.

The grenade was taken away and the scene re-opened at around 5.30pm.

The grenade is believed to be up to 100 years old.
