Glasgow alienated by London: MLA

DUP MLA Gregory Campbell says Glasgow’s yes-vote in the Scottish referendum last week was a reflection of the city’s disaffection with central government.

“The voting in the two principal cities is no coincidence in that the relatively more affluent Edinburgh was 61 per cent no and the relatively less affluent Glasgow was 53 per cent yes,” he said in the Assembly on Monday.

“The referendum was more to do with disaffection from central government and the sense of economic isolation from the south-east of England, and that can resonate with people in Northern Ireland,” he added.
