Cookstown benefit cheat claimed £12K while working

A Cookstown man was convicted at Magherafelt Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Ryan Shirlow (30) of Coolmount Drive, Cookstown claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £12,051 while failing to declare employment. He was given a five month prison sentence suspended for three years and ordered to pay court costs of £40.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
