Firefighters from Cookstown and Maghera are involved in a battle to control a major gorse fire in Tyrone.

On Thursday, a Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) are currently attending a large gorse fire at the Stroanback, Dunnyboe area of Strabane this afternoon (Thursday 2nd June).

“Currently 6 Fire Appliances and 45 Firefighters are dealing with a 2 mile fire front in the area.

“Firefighters are using beaters to deal with the fire. An NIFRS Command Support Unit vehicle and the Fire Emergency Support Service vehicle are also in assistance at the scene.

“There are no further details at this stage.”
