End of an era as NI family butcher’s shop closes after 61 years

Byrne Family Butchers in Lurgan has been a top spot for generations but the brothers are now set to hang up their cleavers for good.
Gerry Byrne, who is now aged 76, said he started at the shop in Church Place 61 years ago.

Hide AdHis brothers Jim (70 and Francis (65) also worked at the family firm.
“I have done 61 years. We are just getting too old,” said Gerry.
The shop still retains its vintage look and is a special place for locals to get their meat and a friendly chat.
Gerry said the shop will close today for the last time.
Its closure will leave generations of customers very sad but with fond memories over the years.
